About Tehvandi Sport Center

Tehvandi Sport center is located in the Otepää rural municipality, Valga Country, Estonia. The center was founded in 1978 by an order of the former Sports Committee of the Soviet Union primarily as a training center for the winter sports Olympic team. From 1993 until 2005 the Tehvandi Center functioned under the name of the Estonian Olympic Training Center in Tehvandi and it was financed as a state agency by the Republic of Estonia and administered by the Ministry of Culture. Since 2005 the Center’s form of operating changed: on the basis of the assets of the state agency the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Estonia, the Otepää rural municipality and the Estonian Ski Association founded the Tehvandi Sport Center Foundation (SA Tehvandi Spordikeskus). The center will continue former activities under the trademark of Tehvandi Sport Center.

This change did not appear just in the name, but also in the activity of the company. Tehvandi can be presumed as a “groundsel” for Estonian top skiers and Olympic winners, but also we are more and more, additionally to professionals, targeted to hobby sportsmen, different companies and those people, who wish to spend an active and sporty vacation or just spend some leisure time. From our side we offer different sportive opportunities in free nature, various possibilities for spending leisure time, accommodation and catering.

The Tehvandi Guesthouse offers accommodation services up to 69 people at once and the holiday home nearby can accommodate up to 10 people. In Guesthouse you find besides single, twin and triple rooms also a suite, dining halls, sauna complex, a room for seminars, a fitness hall, alpine rooms and rooms for massage.

In summer we offer running, nordic walking, cycling, roller skiing and skating tracks with different lengths and difficulty levels. Additionally is offered a particular 1,2km health track, which gives an opportunity to train different muscle groups. In wintertime we have for sport friends lighted skiing tracks covered with artificial snow, also a fitness hall, sledge hill and snowmobile track. As artificial snow is rather durable, it is possible to ski here also at time while snow is fused elsewhere. In addition to different sporting opportunities, which are meant for amateurs, Tehvandi offers a full complex of sport constructions meant for professionals (shooting range, K90 ski jumping hill, Apteekrimäe ski jumping hills complex, stadium complex etc.), which allows to organize here different sport competitions.

In addition to varied sporting opportunities Tehvandi offers an entertainment also by organizing active sport competitions. Foundation Tehvandi Sport Center is the organizer of FIS World Cup in Otepää and international ski roller competition Saku Suverull. By virture of developing sport facilities the assortment of competitions is constantly widening. During last years there have been such events as follows:

* a snowmobile competition Tehvandi Snowcross (2006, 2007)

* European Championships in Orienteering 2006

* World Championships of Foresters 2006

* The Summer Biathlon World Championships 2007

From Tehvandi Sport Center a number of popular public sport events get their starts – Tartu Marathon, Tartu Bicycle Marathon, Tartu Running Marathon, Otepää Bicycle Race etc.

In addition to sporting and sport events Tehvandi offers different possibilities for active vacation – Estonian unique Adventure Park, opportunity for a picnic around the big swing set, saunas etc. In cooperation with other service providers Tehvandi Sport Center offers different interesting vacation packages for summertime and wintertime.

For enterprises Tehvandi offers an opportunity to organize seminars, company events, sport events, summer and winter events. Beautiful nature, varied sporting capabilities, accommodation and catering on spot makes Tehvandi Sport Center the best place for sportive events.

Tehvandi Sport center is a developing center. In addition to renovation and construction of the rooms we also constantly improve the services offered by Tehvandi. We wish to offer the best experiences for the guests of Tehvandi Sport center and hope that every single visitor finds activities corresponding to their expectations.
